"Get to Know me" and Recommended Pathways

A feature suggestion: How about when first starting with Carv, there’s an optional “get to know me” period where it just monitors your skiing for a bit. Then when the user is ready (and that could be after 1 run or could be after a whole first day) ask Carv to suggest what lesson pathway might be best to follow first. Also, that could take into account the resort conditions - i.e. don’t suggest carving if you detect that the conditions are lumpy and soft (if you’re able to detect that).

Also, perhaps put Parallel first in the list of pathways, as it covers foundational skills.

More background on this feature suggestion below:

This came out of my very first day with Carv, so I didn’t know the app well, or how coaching works. I was disappointed by my lack of progression in the Carving pathway and was struggling to see where I was going “wrong”.

I think the core problem was a combination of three things:

  • Firstly this was my first day on skis for a year. That meant that I was finding my feet and muscle memory needed warming up. By the end of the day I felt I was back to the standard I was at last year. Carv wouldn’t know this of course.

  • Secondly, the first lesson pathway I chose was carving, which I thought (as it was first in the app) was the one that the app thought I should start with.

  • Finally, the conditions in Zell am See became very soft and chopped up remarkably quickly on the first day. We were early on the mountain - our first run down (after 2 lifts) was 8:30 and we got maybe 5 runs on smooth groomers before conditions started getting much more variable.

The combination of these very likely meant that carving was not the best choice to be coached on on that first day, and hence the feature suggestion.
