Keep same day separately recorded sessions separate

I sometimes do very different skiing in the morning / afternoon, and change my ski gear.
I normally stop the first session, then start a new one in the afternoon, possibly with different gear.
Currently, this seems to only be stored as a single session (as in, the afternoon one “extends” the morning), and the gear allocation of the afternoon “overrides” what was set on the morning session.
At the moment I guess there aren’t many gear-derived features, but if there were to be (Carv starting to recommend skis???), then the data could be corrupted due to that.
