Race mode

I am skiing in a race community. What holds the racers back from buying carve, seems to be that the goal of carv is not race technique. I agree. Carv’s goal seems to be that you should ski like a demo-skier/ski instructor. I do however think that carv is a great tool for racers, like slow drills, but it would be nice with a race mode - which could make it so much more relevant. I think it would be quite easy to develop. What is true for ski racing? The skier is skiing in gates, and the goal is to go as fast as possible. Simple timing says how fast you go, but what made you go fast or slow can be hard to see. Here are the features I would like to see:

  • a turn by turn analysis on the most important metrics

    • time between turns

    • g-force

    • time spent turning

    • edge angle

    • classifying turns as carv, pivot, or skidd

    • Turn shape and time of applied pressure, as well as where the pressure is applied

    • It would be great if one could do a playback showing angel and accelaration etc between turns.

  • Comparison between runs

    • I guess carv could detect reoccuring segments?

    • higlight differences?

    • time spent in segment (i.e. crude timing)

    • Possibility to record equipment and setup on a run

    • Where is time won and lost comparred to another run?

    • Change in edge angle between runs

    • etc

  • team mode

    • Comparison between different athletes

I do not think raceIq is important, but I guess that could be fun. Turn closure would probably not be relevant (or at least different). Turn consistency should be skipped, as that is up to where the gates are set….there are probably other metrics that are not relevant.
