Phone Compatibility
Information on phone compatibility for iOS and Android
Last updated 9 months ago
iPhone
Carv is compatible with any iPhone running iOS 17.0 or later. To ensure the best app performance and Bluetooth reliability, please keep your device updated to the latest available iOS version.
Please note that older devices, such as the iPhone 5S, have shown an increase in issues and reduced app stability.
Android
Carv requires Android 9.0 or higher, and your phone must support Bluetooth 4.2 or above. Additionally, your device must have Google Play services installed, as Carv is exclusively available via the Google Play Store.
For the best skiing experience, we highly recommend selecting a phone equipped with a barometer, as this significantly improves altitude accuracy and tracking precision.
We analysed data from thousands of skiing sessions during the 2024-2025 season. The following are common types of compatibility challenges we observed:
Bluetooth Capacity
Bluetooth Capacity
Carv transmits data at a high frequency (20 samples per second per ski boot). Lower-end phones may struggle with this data load, causing data drops or inaccuracies.
To learn more about Android bluetooth capacity please read our support article here.
Bluetooth Corruption
Bluetooth Corruption
Certain devices exhibit firmware issues leading to corrupted Bluetooth data transfers and unreliable tracking.

Battery Optimisation and App Locking
Battery Optimisation and App Locking
Some phones aggressively optimise battery usage, potentially closing the Carv app during your ski sessions. Please disable battery optimisation for Carv and lock the app open during sessions.
For more information on Battery Optimisation and App Locking please read our support article here.
GPS Accuracy
GPS Accuracy
Devices with inconsistent GPS hardware can significantly affect the accuracy of run tracking. It’s also recommended that you use a phone equipped with a barometer to help Carv function at its best.
Poor GPS performance may affect the accuracy of your resort tracking, run distance, and speed measurements. However, your Ski:IQ score, technique analysis, and all ski metrics will remain accurate and unaffected by GPS issues.
Phones to avoid
