Information Missing From Carv Map

Solutions for any issues you may be experiencing on the Carv Map.

Last updated 9 months ago

Carv relies heavily on GPS to function accurately. To ensure the app works as intended, please make sure location permissions are enabled on your device.

How to Enable Location for Carv:

  1. Open Settings on your phone.

  2. Go to Apps > Carv > Permissions.

  3. Toggle Location to ON.

For more detailed troubleshooting steps, see this section: Debugging Carv GPS of GPS and Bluetooth (GATT) Errors

  • If you’re skiing indoors or in a location with no GPS signal, Carv won’t be able to assign a resort to your session.

  • If your ski resort isn’t listed in OpenStreetMap, Carv will default to the nearest mapped resort.

  • Please note: We’re unable to retroactively change your run or resort data.

Data missing from the Carv map

If you’re missing resort data from your Carv Map, it may be that you need to update it. Carv pulls its data in from Open Ski Map (OSM), which is editable by the public. We then import this data into the Carv app. So, if it’s not in Open Ski Map, it won’t be in the Carv app.

To Make A Map Edit head to Open Street Map, click on edit in the top left hand corner, and log in/ sign up. Then follow the relevant instructions below for the edit you’d like to make…

i.e. where there is an auto-generated name like "Piste 921"

  1. Find the piste on OpenSkiMap via GPS reference.

  2. Click the piste > click the "OpenStreetMap" link.

  3. Click Edit > add the correct name in the Name field > Save.

i.e. where resort is shown as a local town

  1. Locate the piste > follow the Country > Town > Resort breadcrumb.

  2. Click the (usually wrong) resort name > click "OpenStreetMap" > Edit > enter correct resort name > Save.

i.e. where there is the wrong piste name, but it’s not auto-generated as above

  1. Navigate to where the piste should be.

  2. Click Edit > use the Line tool to trace the piste path.

  3. Set type to Downhill Ski Run, name it > Save.

i.e. where the resort shown as a nearby resort

  1. Use the Area Tool to draw around the full ski area.

  2. Set type to Winter Sports Area, name it > Save.

We now bring in OSM updates about once a month, and the changes should be reflected in the next Carv app release after that. So, your changes will not appear in the app right away.
